February 29, 2020 (Leap Year) Cub Scout Pack 302 from Hallsville, TX held their annual Blue & Gold Awards Banquet at the Nesbitt Fire Station (#3). The awards banquet is the ceremony that signifies the completion and awarding of each scout's rank, activity belt loops, and event patches. Pack 302 is led by Cub Master Doug Harrington and assisted by numerous other adult leader volunteers including Nesbitt Firefighter and PIO, Dr. Texas Rüegg who currently serves as the Pack Awards Chair and Assistant Den Leader for the Wolf den.
The banquet was attended by scouts and families totaling over 150 participants to celebrate more than 30 scouts advancing to a new rank. Dr. Rüegg's son, Lukas was awarded his Wolf rank which was pinned on his uniform upside-down, requiring him to do one more good turn in order to have it turned upright. Cub Scouts is the first step in the Boy Scout organization that prepares young boys to become active competent leaders in their communities. Nesbitt Fire Department was a perfect location for this ceremony as it represents the commitment of service to the community through the dedication of local volunteers and leaders.
